CT Magnet: Pre-Pathway to International Baccalaureate Diploma Program

Program info meeting! Thursday, December 12 at 5:30pm

MAGNET MISSION

The CTMS Magnet program aspires to help develop well-rounded students who respond to challenges with optimism and an open mind, are confident in their own identities, make ethical decisions, join with others in celebrating our common humanity and are prepared to apply what they learn in real life.

The Columbus Tustin Magnet & Pre-Pathway to International Baccalaureate Diploma Program offers a unique learning environment. Magnet students spend the majority of their school day as a cohort in Math-Science and Language Arts-Social Science classes. The remainder of the day is spent in PE and elective classes with Columbus Tustin students.

The Magnet teachers are committed and enthusiastic professionals who have high expectations for themselves and their students. They are experts in their subject areas, trained in GATE instruction, and hold graduate degrees in education.

The Columbus Tustin Magnet Program maintains high academic standards and integrates academic disciplines as part of the Magnet Program Core. Magnet students have the opportunity to participate in a full range of extra-curricular activities and are encouraged to enroll in STEAM, performing arts, and/or foreign language elective classes. Magnet families understand that the coursework is rigorous. The students develop study skills/study habits today with an eye on future education. Magnet students intend to enroll in high school advanced placement (AP) courses and have college in their sights.

The scope of the students’ education extends beyond the traditional classroom. Magnet students participate in science camps, field trips, and regional and national academic competitions such as VEX Robotics (county, state and national competitions), math competitions, Orange County Science and Engineering Fair, and the California Science and Engineering Fair.

Qualities of a magnet program candidate include the following:

  • Motivated, enthusiastic learner
  • Highly interested in math and science
  • Willing to participate in a unique school setting
  • Willing to handle a challenging workload
  • Performs above grade level
  • Maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Shows evidence of strong parental involvement and support for high academic standards and time management
